University of Mainz Law School Wins Prize for Glasgow Partnership

The University of Mainz School of Law has received an award worth €9,000 from the German Academy Exchange Service (DAAD) in recognition of its co-operation work with the University of Glasgow. The DAAD awarded the Mainz-Glasgow partnership third place in its nationwide contest. The prize money will be used to further the collaboration.
As part of the programme, Mainz students can spend one academic year at the University of Glasgow giving them the opportunity to gain an LL.M. The programme, which includes a second partner in France, is set up to help German students gain professional positions.
In addition, Glasgow and Mainz students take part in a comparative law project which involves short-term mobility for both groups of students.
Currently, one of the University of Glasgow’s graduates is working in Mainz’s School of Law while Ms Annika Janz from Mainz is spending six months in Glasgow developing mobility opportunities for both groups of students.
Professor Jim Murdoch, Professor of Public Law and International Dean for Mobility, said: “Our partnership with Mainz is the Law School’s oldest link. Indeed, a group of academics from Glasgow arrived to establish the link on November 9, 1989, the day the Berlin Wall fell.”
